After months of various efforts to determine the source of excruciating pain in my foot, I asked a chiropractor about alternatives to x-rays. He mentioned tuning forks. I then asked an osteopath her opinion of this method and discovered that this is actually a recognized diagnostic technique. A few hours of surfing made it clear that this particular 128 Hz fork is the preferred frequency for testing. There are rather a large number of technical papers and explanations online, many of which rely on the tuning fork in conjunction with a stethoscope. However, the chiropractor told me that if there were a fracture, the sound would go through the break and cause a lot of pain. The fork was shipped promptly and arrived the night before my appointment with a cranio-sacral therapist.
